Friends' subgroup activities - Round up

The Friends of Merri Creek subgroups work at their dedicated sites along the creek, with regular working bees to weed, remove litter, plant to improve habitat and biodiversity.
National Tree Day events were also hosted by the Friends of Edwardes Lake with Darebin Council and Merri Creek Management Committee, Merri-bek Council with MCMC at Moomba Park, Fawkner, City of Yarra with MCMC at Tourist Drive, Yarra Boulevard and the Wallan Environment Group.

- Merri Creek Labyrinth ran a successful planting day in June. The group is looking to raise funds for restoration/improvement of the labyrinth structure and would welcome new people to help lead the subgroup.
- Coburg Lake and Surrounds focus on 2 main sites at the lake and continue with their twice weekly working bees. Recently, the group completed a planting with plants donated by Speedie Waste.
- Friends of Edgars Creek host monthly events. Their next is on Sunday, 18 August 2024, 1:00pm - 3.00pm, planting at their Caravan Park site. National Tree Day, despite rain and mud saw 500 plants put in the ground.
- The Wednesday Volunteers continued their monthly working bees at Ngarri-djarrang in Reservoir and the Imaroo Escarpment in Fawkner.
- The Upper Plenty Merri Catchments Landcare Group planted 200 plants at Walwa Park in June. Tubestock was supplied by Valley of a Thousand Hills Farm Nursery and Fifteen Trees provided the funding for plants and materials, plus an amazing lunch! Their National Tree Day event planted 150 indigenous trees and shrubs around Dry Creek, the workers sharing another impressive lunch.

- Friends of Bracken Creek held a weeding event in June and, in partnership with Darebin Council, are working towards planting a bed in early August.
- Friends of Merri Park monthly working bees include litter collection, weeding and planting. Their traditional and successful Mother's Day event was held in May.
