Wollert waste incinerator proposal - Update
26th July 2024
By Phil Sinclair
To date, the public has made 764 public submissions on Cleanaway's application for a waste incinerator (MERC) in Wollert. Most of these submissions made it clear that the incinerator wasn't wanted anywhere near Wollert.
On 20th of June, there was a public information session, held in Wollert, with 50 people attending, mostly local residents. Many were frustrated with the process and method of engagement. "Disrespect" was a common theme raised. The Friends will make a further submission, once the EPA releases the additional information requested from Cleanaway, along with the report from the independent chair of the "conference".
The EPA received Cleanaway’s responses to all requests for information on 29 May, 2024. These responses are currently under review by the EPA. The EPA has 4 months to decide either to issue or refuse a development license (i.e. until the end of September 2024).
Submissions can still be made on the planning application by emailing: development.approvals@delwp.vic.gov.au
In the interests of the local community and environment, we encourage our membership to make their own submissions. If the development license is issued, the community (or other third parties) can object, through VCAT. The applicant can also object.
Any objection needs to be registered with VCAT, within 15 days of the issuing of the development license.
