Upper Plenty Merri Catchments Landcare Group
26th April 2023
Upper Plenty Merri Catchments Landcare Group was formed as a result of a steering committee made up of representatives from the Merri Creek Management Committee, Mitchell Shire Council, Friends of Merri Creek and the Wallan Environment Group. In late 2022 a small group of volunteers formed the committee with the support and assistance of Upper Merri Landcare Facilitator, Chris Cobern.
So far we have run a well attended weed information session and had a practical follow up session on a local property, demonstrating a range of effective weed control techniques. There are a number of revegetation projects currently planned, thanks to funding generously offered by the Friends of Merri Creek.
We have had a lot of interest from the local community and hope to engage them in projects that will improve both our ecosystems and community connection in the Upper Plenty and Upper Merri Catchments.
The Upper Plenty Merri Catchments Landcare groups services the Upper Plenty and Upper Merri Creek catchment from Heathcote Junction down to Janna Road, Beveridge. They meet on the third Wednesday of the month at the Upper Plenty Mechanics Institute Hall. You can find their Facebook page here.
