Northern Trails strategy
5th September 2022
By Jane Miller
A joint project between Moreland, Darebin, Banyule, Hume, Whittlesea and Nillumbik Councils, the Northern Trails Strategy is working to deliver an improved recreational off-road trail network for northern Melbourne. The Strategy refresh is taking into account developments in related infrastructure, population shifts and other changes since the original strategy was developed in 2016.
The Refresh stage has arrived at a top ten projects list - including four for the Merri Creek Trail and one for the Edgars Creek Trail.
Now is your chance to vote to prioritise this list: you can cast up to 3 votes.
For the Friends, a priority project is the completion of the missing section of trail from the Metropolitan Ring Rd to the existing section of trail south of Horne St. Addressing this gap in the Trail would provide a key piece of mobility infrastructure for the proposed marran baba Merri Regional Parklands.
Other Merri Creek Trail proposals:
- advocate for and investigate the staged extension of the Merri Creek Trail, from Cooper Street Somerton/Epping north to O'Herns Road, as a part of the Upper Merri Creek Regional Parkland Plan
- advocate for and investigate the staged extension of the Merri Creek Trail, from O'Herns Road to Craigieburn Road, as a part of the Upper Merri Creek Regional Parkland Plan
- partner with Parks Victoria and DELWP to extend the Merri Creek Trail from Merri Concourse (north) to Cooper Street; and
- Edgars Creek Trail: construct a new section of trail from the Merri Creek Trail to Ronald Street on the west bank.
Voting is open until 19 September 2022. You can add comments in support of your selections.
