Timezone

(UTC+10:00) Australia/Sydney

On Wednesday 26 August, we will be going to Stellaria Nature Reserve in Somerton to help control the environmental weed, Cape Tulip.

This is a Merri Creek Management Committee (MCMC) event led by MCMC Ecological Restoration Program staff in collaboration with FoMC Wednesday Volunteers.

Where to meet at 9:50 am:

We will meet at the east end of Patullos Lane.

Location: Google Map Location

The closest street address is 15 Patullos Ln, Somerton. The east end of Patullos Lane is an unsealed road suitable for all vehicles. Parking will be available in the reserve behind the management gate. MCMC staff will be present to assist.

Site information:

This section of Merri Creek is frequented by Eastern Grey Kangaroos and Swamp Wallabies, and the site supports populations of vulnerable Golden Sun Moth and endangered plant communities.

Activities:

We will be helping control the Cape Tulip infestation at Stellaria. Cape Tulip is an environmental weed that severely impedes the growth and regeneration of native ground flora. Our efforts will help protect the highest quality areas of the grassland.

To help with our planning, please let us know if you expect to attend.

Please bring water, sunscreen and a hat. It's important that you wear suitable protective clothing: long sleeves, long pants and enclosed shoes. We also encourage you to bring insecticide and familiarise yourself with preventative measures for the Buruli Ulcer.

MCMC will supply clean hand tools and gloves; however, you are welcome to bring your own.

Please don't attend if you are feeling unwell or have cold or flu-like symptoms.

Any children (under 18) attending must at all times be in the company of, and under the direct supervision of, their parent or guardian.

In the event of extreme weather, please check your emails for any cancellation. (A little bit of rain doesn't count!)
