Merri Creek Wednesday Volunteers

We will work at Stellaria Nature Reserve, Somerton.

Where to meet at 9:50 am:

The east end of Patullos Lane. The closest street address is 15 Patullos Lane, Somerton VIC 3062.

The east end of Patullos Lane is an unsealed road suitable for all vehicles. Parking will be available in the reserve behind the management gate. MCMC staff will be present to assist.

Site information:

Situated in the middle reaches of Merri Creek this area is frequented by Eastern Grey Kangaroos and Swamp Wallabies.  The site supports populations of vulnerable Golden Sun Moth and endangered plant communities.

Activities:

We will be helping control the Cape Tulip infestation at Stellaria. Cape Tulip is an environmental weed that severely impedes the growth and regeneration of native ground flora.  Our efforts will help protect the highest quality areas of the grassland.

Please bring water, sunscreen and a hat. It's important that you wear suitable protective clothing: long sleeves, long pants and enclosed shoes. We also encourage you to bring insecticide and familiarise yourself with preventative measures for the Buruli Ulcer.

We will finish work around 12 midday.

MCMC will supply clean hand tools and gloves; however, you are welcome to bring your own.

Please don't attend if you are feeling unwell, or have cold or flu-like symptoms.

Any children (under 18) attending must at all times be in the company of, and under the direct supervision of, their parent or guardian.
